FIRST GENERATION

1. Henry Wiedrich was born on 6 Sep 1822 in Strasbourg, France. He died on 26 Sep 1912 in Indian Falls, Genesee County, New York. He resided Came to America; settled in Orangeville.. He resided 58 years in Genesee County: Elba, Stafford, Indian Falls.. He was buried in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba, New York (W. of Rt. 98 on West Ave.). Henry Wiedrich was German Protestant. Came to America in 1832. It is presumed that he may have come to America with Michael Wiedrich, as they came at the same time, and were 2 years apart, arriving in the Western N. Y.area, however, they could have been cousins. More research needs to be done on Michael Wiedrich, who was a commanding officer at Gettysburg in the Civil War, and an historical figure. The records will be corrected as needed, when more information is known.

In the 1850 census, Michael Wiedrich is listed in Erie County, Buffalo, 4th Ward. He is the only Wiedrich listed. George and Michael are listed in the 5th Ward in Buffalo in the 1860 Erie County Census. Henry Wiedrich is first listed (2 entries) in the page 31 and 32 1860 New York Census, Genesee County. The only other Wiedrich listed in New York at this time is Godfrey Wiedrich in New York City.

In "Personal References of Genesee County" Henry Wiedrich is noted to have come to to the United States with his parents when six years old, from Alsace, Germany, in 1822. That would mean he would have come at about 1828.

"Mr. Wiedrich's (John) father, Henry Wiedrich, was born in Alsace, Germany, in 1822, and came to the United States with his parents when 6 years old, locating in Wyoming County, where he was educated in the district schools. He married Elizabeth Ditman of Germany. They had 9 children: George, Henry, Jr., John, William,Elizabeth, Catherine, Carrie, Augustus and Edward. Father and mother are both living at this date, 1898."...

Henry Wiedrich

Death of Aged Resident of Indian Falls, Native of Germany

Corfu, Sept. 27, 1912--Henry Wiedrich died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. david Houseknecht (Elizabeth Wiedrich) of Indian Falls at 5:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the infirmities of age.
Mr. Wiedrich was born in Germany on September 6, 1822, and came to America when 10 years of age and settled in Orangeville. On September 21, 1842, he married Miss Elizabeth Dittman, who died on June 11, 1907. He had spent 58 years in Genesee County, having resided in Stafford and Elba as well as at Indian Falls. He was a member of the East Pembroke Lodge of Odd Fellows.
Besides his daughter, Mrs. Houseknecht, Mr. Wiedrich is survived by three sons, George D. of Bergen, John of Elba, and William of Medina; a daughter, Miss Carrie Wiedrich of Pembroke, 23 grandchildren and six great-granchildren.
The funeral will be held from the Methodist-Episcopal church at Indian Fallsat 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, and the burial will be at Elba. The East Pembroke Odd Fellows will have charge of services at the grave.

The remains of Henry Wiedrich were interred in Elba on Sunday afternoon beside the remains of his wife in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, ceremonies at the grave being conducted by the Odd Fellows. About 40 relatives and friends were present at the services at the family home at Indian Falls and accompanied the remains to Elba. They were served with dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Brownell, the latter being a niece of Mr. Wiedrich.

Peter Wiedrich was a brother to Henry Wiedrich, because Mrs. Grant Brownell , serving dinner at his funeral dinner, was his niece. She was married to Grant Brownell. In another town accounting of obituaries of Wiedrich family members, Mrs. Peter Wiedrich's obituary states that her daughter was Mrs. Grant Brownell of Elba. She was also survived by three sons, Henry of Batavia, Charles of LaSalle, and Peter Wiedrich of Niagara Falls.

He was married to Margaret Elisabeth Ditman on 21 Sep 1842. Margaret Elisabeth Ditman was born on 11 Dec 1827. She died on 11 Jun 1907.(1) She was Methodist-Episcopal Church of Oakfield, New York, and of Bergen, N.Y.. She was buried in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba, New York (W. of Rt. 98 on West Ave.). Henry Wiedrich and Margaret Elisabeth Ditman had the following children:
