Wyoming County was formed from Genesee County on May 19, 1841. Eagle, Pike and a part of Portage were annexed from Allegany Co. in 1846. The county seat is Warsaw. Mary Jemison ("The Old White Woman"), Ebenezer Allen, John Tolles, Jacob Wright, Nathaniel Sprout and Stephen Crow were some of the first settlers.
Wyoming County is bounded on the north by Genesee County, on the east by Livingston County, on the south by Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties, and on the west by Erie County.

Genesee Area Genealogists is an organization of people from Genesee, Wyoming, and Ontario counties plus others from around the country which meets on the third Tuesdays ten months a year (February through November) at 7 pm in the Richmond Memorial Library at 19 Ross St., Batavia, NY. We welcome anyone who is interested in genealogy or family history. Our fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 of the succeeding year. We are a very expensive organization to join since our dues are $10.00 per year and that includes a bi-monthly newsletter!!!

The "Western New York Genealogical Society was founded in 1974 to help preserve and encourage interest in the area's rich genealogical heritage. Its focus is the eight Western New York counties which originally were part of the Holland Land Company Purchase - Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming. Membership benefits include seven meetings each year with speakers, workshops and fieldtrips; and a subscription to the quarterly Journal, issued June, September, December and March.

She has an extensive library on all the towns of Wyoming County and Western New York including 1000's of marriages, births and deaths. The fees are very reasonable.
